Massive Recall of 91,000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Hybrids Due to Safety Concerns

Stellantis has issued a recall for 91,000 Jeep Grand Cherokee hybrid models in the United States due to a software malfunction linked to a potential loss of driving power. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) disclosed that certain vehicles from model years 2022 through 2026 may experience an overloading of the battery pack control module microprocessor, causing it to reset. This issue could lead the hybrid control processor to misinterpret signals from the battery pack control module, potentially resulting in a sudden loss of propulsion.

The NHTSA emphasized that an unexpected power failure could increase the risk of crashes without prior warning. Of the 91,787 affected vehicles, approximately 1%—or 918 units—are believed to have the defect. Vehicles not included in the recall either lack a hybrid control processor or were manufactured outside the affected timeframe.

A fix for the issue is under development, with impacted owners set to receive mailed notifications by October 23. Stellantis, the parent company of Chrysler, has not yet responded to requests for comment on the matter.
