My Little Pony Obsession: A 30-Year-Old Man’s Unlikely Fan Art and Horror Stories

Brian Cole Jr., a 30-year-old man, has been reported to be deeply obsessed with My Little Pony—a toy line marketed primarily to young girls.

According to the report, Cole created art featuring plastic pony dolls, remixes of songs about ponies, and fan fiction dedicated to the franchise. His works are spread across social media accounts linked to his email address and phone number.

Using the username iDeltaVelocity, Cole uploaded 87 images of My Little Pony fan art on a forum. The artwork depicts various pony and unicorn characters, including one with a bionic leg brace. He appears to favor pink or purple ponies with long, multicolored manes.

In one post, a “Star Wars”-inspired pony speaks in a speech bubble: “I’m not ‘cute,’ I’m deadly,” which Cole claims is a line from the video game Star Wars: The Old Republic.

A Tumblr account that used Cole’s username commented on a drawing of a pony with an M60 machine gun, writing: “Eh… I’d give her an RPG. What can I say? Explosions are COOL!”

The term “Brony” refers to individuals who participate in the My Little Pony subculture. While this community was large enough in 2017 to hold annual conventions and experts considered followers sincere in their fandom, none of Cole’s posts examined by the report contained sexual connotations.

One fan fiction story authored by Cole describes a horror scenario:
“Applebloom’s eyes snapped open as she sat up in her bed, panting heavily and sweat dripping from her red mane […] The skeletons, the zombified ponies rising up from the ground, their decaying bodies, rotting flesh sliding off from their bones.”

A former high school classmate told a reporter that Cole had carried a My Little Pony backpack and was teased for it.
