Off-Duty U.S. Secret Service Employee Placed on Leave After Alleged Indecent Exposure at Miami Hotel

An off-duty U.S. Secret Service employee has been placed on administrative leave following an incident where he allegedly masturbated in front of hotel guests at a Miami resort.

According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, John Spillman, 33, committed the offense of indecent exposure during his assignment in Florida. The incident occurred late Sunday night at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Miami Airport & Convention Center. Guests reported that they were in the hotel lobby when Spillman followed them, forcing them to retreat to their rooms for safety. One guest told investigators she and others immediately entered their room because “she was in fear for her life.”

The guests then saw Spillman masturbating next to their hotel room. After calling hotel security, they learned Spillman was found with his pants lowered and masturbating on the sixth floor.

Spillman was taken into custody just after midnight Monday. He is from Marble Falls, Texas, and is based in Washington, D.C. Reports indicate he was in South Florida as part of a security perimeter screening detail for President Trump’s scheduled visit to attend the 2026 PGA Cadillac Championship at Trump National Doral.

In a statement, Secret Service Chief Richard Macauley said: “The alleged conduct is unacceptable and stands in stark contrast to the professionalism and integrity that I demand of our personnel. This agency takes these matters with the utmost seriousness; consequently, the individual has been placed on administrative leave pending the results of this criminal matter and a complete and thorough internal investigation.”

Spillman was booked at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center and ordered held on $1,000 bond. He is scheduled to return to court on May 27. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to inquiries.
