Ramaswamy Condemns GOP’s Identity Politics After Election Defeats

Ohio gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy delivered a scathing critique of Republican strategies following a series of electoral losses, accusing the party of failing to address critical issues. “We got our as handed to us,” Ramaswamy stated bluntly after setbacks in Virginia, New Jersey, and New York City.

Ramaswamy outlined two primary lessons for Republicans: prioritizing affordability and rejecting identity politics. He argued that the party must focus on reducing costs for essentials like electricity, groceries, healthcare, and housing while emphasizing character over “the color of your skin or your religion.” “That’s who we are,” he asserted.

The defeats occurred despite controversies surrounding Democratic candidates. In Virginia, Democrat Jay Jones ousted Republican Attorney General Jason Miyares after facing backlash for racially charged text messages. In New Jersey, Gov.-elect Mikie Sherrill faced scrutiny over alleged involvement in a naval academy cheating scandal, though she denied direct wrongdoing.

Ramaswamy, who campaigned for defeated GOP candidates in Virginia and New Jersey, claimed victories in those races could have set the stage for broader successes. He positioned himself as a frontrunner for Ohio’s 2024 gubernatorial election, citing endorsements from President Trump and the Ohio GOP. Ramaswamy pledged to tackle “more energy, more housing, less crime, less taxation” if elected.

While Democratic candidates emphasized affordability, progressive challenger Jumaane Williams faced attacks over his religious identity and stance on Israel. A rival ad linked him to 9/11 imagery, and New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo questioned his leadership amid the Gaza conflict.
