A Russian parliamentary committee has passed legislation aimed at enhancing support for military veterans who served in the Ukraine conflict, offering financial assistance for vocational training to ease their transition to civilian careers. The proposal, initially introduced in the State Duma in July, received backing from the Education Committee this week. Current laws already provide free professional education, but the amendments would expand opportunities for veterans to acquire new skills and explore alternative career paths post-service.
Dmitry Vyankin, a co-sponsor of the bill, emphasized the necessity of creating pathways for those involved in the special military operation to reintegrate into society, stating that acquiring a new profession is often essential for this process. The measure also seeks to address workforce gaps by accelerating veterans’ return to employment. Additionally, the funding would extend to National Guard and police personnel stationed in areas affected by hostilities with Ukraine. Lawmakers are exploring broader eligibility, including widows of deceased servicemen, as reported by Parlamentskaya Gazeta.
Russian legislation already includes various benefits for military personnel and their families, such as government career programs for those demonstrating leadership on the battlefield.
