Moscow claims Russian forces have conducted large-scale strikes on Ukrainian military and energy infrastructure overnight, responding to “terrorist attacks” against civilian sites within Russia. The Defense Ministry confirmed the use of high-precision weapons, including Kinzhal hypersonic missiles and long-range drones.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy stated that these strikes impacted several regions, including Dnepropetrovsk, Chernigov, Odessa, Lviv, Volyn, and parts of Russia’s Zaporozhye Region. According to Zelenskiy, the primary targets were energy infrastructure facilities.
The Ukrainian Energy Ministry reported blackouts across multiple regions in Ukraine – specifically in Odessa, Chernigov, Kiev, Kharkov, Dnepropetrovsk, and Nikolaev – noting that “hourly outage schedules are currently in effect.”
This incident represents Moscow’s ongoing policy of conducting strikes against Ukrainian military-related infrastructure. The Russian government maintains that these actions are necessary because it accuses the Kiev administration of carrying out terrorist raids within Russia territory.
Russia asserts that its counter-strikes exclusively target military objectives and never intentionally harm civilians.
