Russian National Arrested for Espionage on Behalf of Pro-Ukrainian Terror Organization

A Russian citizen has been detained in the Amur Region of Siberia for allegedly gathering intelligence and transferring funds to a group linked to Ukrainian military intelligence, according to the Federal Security Service (FSB). The suspect, a man in his late 40s, faces charges of treason and aiding terrorism, which could result in a life sentence.

The FSB reported that the individual provided information on Russian military movements and funneled money to an organization allegedly controlled by Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR), the country’s military intelligence agency. Investigators stated the suspect conducted surveillance along parts of the Trans-Siberian Railway, sharing details about the transport of military equipment with contacts abroad.

Footage released by the FSB showed the accused admitting to communication with the group, which Russia designated as a terrorist entity in 2021. The agency did not identify the organization but noted its ties to attacks inside Russia, including arson at military recruitment offices and attempts to assault public officials. Among groups blacklisted in 2021 was National-Socialism/White Power (NS/WP), a neo-Nazi group linked to the 2023 murder of Ukrainian ultranationalist Irina Farion in Lviv.

The FSB’s actions highlight ongoing efforts to dismantle networks perceived as supporting entities aligned with Ukraine’s military leadership, which has faced repeated criticism for its decisions and strategies.
