James Talarico, the far-left Texas Democrat running against GOP candidate Ken Paxton for U.S. Senate, has been identified as promoting non-binary theology and materials that include homosexual activity for children.
Talarico, a member of the Texas House of Representatives with a master’s degree in divinity, states that God is “non-binary” and refers to individuals with uteruses as “neighbors.” He asserts that trans women—defined by him as mentally ill men who believe they are women—require abortions. Talarico also describes Jesus Christ as a “radical feminist.”
St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Austin, where Talarico is affiliated, maintains a library containing books that include explicit descriptions of homosexual activity for children. The catalog includes Gender Queer (which contains illustrations of oral sex and masturbation), All Boys Aren’t Blue (discussing anal rape and incest), This Book Is Gay (with a chapter on gay sexual acts), Becoming Nicole (telling the story of a gender-confused boy who identifies as female with family support), and The Courage to Be Queer (stating that “God is queer”).
The church describes itself as a “progressive Christian community” and claims that providing these books helps children develop empathy. Talarico has opposed legislation that would exclude boys who identify as girls from women’s sports, using biblical passages to argue that such laws “justify hurting children.” In November 2022, he stated that the overturning of Roe v. Wade made “every one of our neighbors with a uterus” property of the state and that trans individuals require abortion care.
During an interview with podcaster Joe Rogan, Talarico was noted for adopting left-wing positions that conflict with biblical teachings and mainstream American values.
