Actor Kiefer Sutherland, 59, was arrested Monday in Los Angeles for an alleged physical assault of a rideshare driver.
The incident occurred at Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue in Hollywood shortly after midnight when police responded to a call reporting an assault.
Sutherland was released later that day on $50,000 bail. Police reports stated that Sutherland entered a rideshare vehicle, physically assaulted the driver, and made criminal threats toward the victim.
Authorities confirmed that the victim did not sustain injuries requiring medical treatment at the scene and that an investigation remains ongoing.
Sutherland was booked into jail around 4 a.m. on an unspecified felony charge. He was assigned $50,000 bail and released approximately seven hours later, according to Los Angeles County jail records.
The alleged assault is not Sutherland’s first legal issue; he has been jailed in 2007 after pleading no contest to a drunken driving charge and received a conviction for drunken driving in 2004.
Sutherland, a British-born Canadian actor best known for his role as federal agent Jack Bauer on the Fox TV series “24” and its spinoffs, has also starred in “The Lost Boys,” “Young Guns,” and two films directed by Rob Reiner: “Stand by Me” and “A Few Good Men.”
He is the son of Hollywood actor Donald Sutherland.
