The president stated the FBI is “95% sure” the detained suspect is responsible for the crime. “The suspect in the killing of Charlie Kirk is in custody,” Trump said. “With a high degree of certainty, we have him in custody.” He added, “I hope he gets the death penalty.”
A senior administration official confirmed law enforcement had been investigating since early Friday and emphasized the president’s authority to disclose information promptly. “This is the president’s administration, so he has the right to say what he wants when he wants about it,” the official said. “We’re sure this is the guy.”
