Trump Declares Maduro Regime Foreign Terrorist Group, Orders Total Oil Blockade

U.S.-Venezuela tensions have reached a historic high as President Trump announced sweeping actions against Nicolás Maduro’s regime on Truth Social. In his post, he designated Maduro’s government as a foreign terrorist organization and ordered a “total and complete blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers entering and exiting Venezuela.”

The president stated that the Venezuelan regime has engaged in “theft of our Assets” and other activities including terrorism, drug smuggling, and human trafficking. Trump added: “Venezuela is completely surrounded by the largest Armada ever assembled in the History of South America.” He warned that the impact on Venezuela would be unprecedented until it repatriated all stolen oil, land, and assets to the United States.

Trump also accused Maduro’s regime of using oil from seized fields to fund “Drug Terrorism, Human Trafficking, Murder, and Kidnapping.”

The move follows years of U.S. sanctions against Venezuela since 2005. The administration has previously blocked crude exports from Venezuela to the U.S., though Chevron, a Houston-based company, operates under a limited sanction carve-out. In March, Trump revoked Chevron’s license but later reinstated it with conditions prohibiting revenue from going to Maduro.

Venezuela condemned the announcement as “a reckless and serious threat,” noting that its vast oil reserves operate below capacity due to international sanctions and are primarily sold to China.
