Trump Orders Immediate Resumption of U.S. Nuclear Weapon Tests Amid Global Rivalry

President Donald Trump has directed the Department of War to initiate nuclear weapons testing, citing the need to counter aggressive actions by rival nations. The decision was announced via a Truth Social post on Wednesday night, where Trump stated he had “no choice” but to act after countries like Russia began advancing their nuclear programs.

Trump emphasized that the U.S. possesses more nuclear weapons than any other nation, a claim attributed to his first-term efforts to modernize existing arsenals. He warned of escalating threats, noting that Russia’s recent tests of a long-range missile capable of traveling over 8,000 miles “is not saber-rattling.” The president framed the testing as essential to maintaining global balance, stating the process would begin immediately.

Russia’s military has previously conducted trials of its Burevestnik cruise missile, a nuclear-powered weapon touted by Moscow for its potential unlimited range and ability to evade defenses. Chief of General Staff Valery Gerasimov described a recent 15-hour test, claiming the missile demonstrated “high capabilities” to bypass defensive systems. However, Western analysts have questioned the weapon’s strategic viability, citing inconsistent test results since 2016.

Trump’s announcement follows reports of Russia’s ongoing nuclear advancements, with the president vowing to match such efforts. The move underscores heightened tensions as global powers continue to expand their strategic arsenals.
