Trump Proposes $2,000 Rebates from Tariff Revenues

President Trump is seriously considering distributing up to $2,000 in stimulus checks to all taxpayers, funded by tariff revenues generated under his administration’s trade policies. The plan, which would see the majority of funds directed toward reducing national debt, includes potential direct payments to American citizens as a “dividend.”

Trump outlined the proposal during an interview with One America News Network, stating that tariffs imposed on foreign nations in April are beginning to generate significant revenue. He noted that annual tariff collections could reach “over a trillion dollars,” emphasizing that the $37 trillion national debt is “very little, relatively speaking” given the influx of funds.

The president described the rebate idea as a way to share proceeds from tariffs, which have generated approximately $214.9 billion in revenue this year, according to Treasury Department data. While specifics remain under discussion, Trump suggested potential payments ranging from $1,000 to $2,000 per individual.

The plan would require congressional approval, as federal disbursements are subject to legislative oversight. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court is set to review a case next month that could determine the legality of the president’s broad tariff authority.
