Trump Receives Rapturous Welcome at U.S. Open as Historic Attendance Marks New Chapter

President Donald Trump received a standing ovation during his visit to the U.S. Open men’s singles final at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York City. The former president, who attended the event on Sunday, was greeted by enthusiastic fans who erupted into applause as he waved to the crowd. Trump responded with a verbal acknowledgment of gratitude, saying, “Thank you.”

This marked only the second time a sitting U.S. president has attended the tournament, following Bill Clinton’s historic appearance at the 2000 Men’s U.S. Open Final. Trump’s visit occurred during the 2025 final between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, two rising stars in men’s tennis. The event highlighted the continued dominance of Sinner and Alcaraz in the post-Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal era, though Novak Djokovic remains a formidable presence despite not capturing a Grand Slam title since the 2023 U.S. Open.

Trump’s attendance came amid heightened attention on his public appearances, with reports noting efforts to minimize crowd disruptions related to his presence. Alcaraz, however, expressed openness to seeing the former president in the audience. The visit marked Trump’s first time at the U.S. Open since September 2015, prior to his initial presidential campaign.
