Trump Says Strait of Hormuz Will Open Immediately Upon Iran Memorandum Signing

President Trump provided steady messaging during Wednesday’s Oval Office press conference, addressing Iran, Kuwait, and ongoing ceasefire negotiations. The president emphasized that American forces remain protected, negotiations are progressing, and diplomatic pressure is being applied to Tehran.

Asked about Iran’s recent targeting of U.S. forces and an overnight attack on Kuwait that injured dozens, Trump stated that American forces “nipped it in the bud very quickly.” He noted that Iranian drones did not reach their intended targets, and U.S. Central Command confirmed multiple aerial threats were successfully intercepted with no personnel or assets harmed.

Trump also indicated that ceasefire negotiations are moving “very well” and a deal could be finalized over the weekend, though he cautioned that no final agreement exists yet.

When discussing the Strait of Hormuz, Trump asserted that if a memorandum is signed by the relevant parties, the strategic waterway would open immediately. However, he acknowledged that mines may need to be checked beforehand.
