President Donald Trump has issued a stark warning about the Democratic Party’s escalating shift toward socialist policies, declaring that such moves risk long-term societal collapse and party decline. Speaking in an hour-long exclusive interview with Breitbart News from the White House Oval Office on Tuesday, Trump accused Democrats of embracing a “giveaway” culture that he claims historically leads to “squalor, crime, and death.”
“You would think that they couldn’t go anywhere,” Trump stated, arguing that American society would recognize the inevitable consequences of this trajectory. “Go back 1,000 years, different names, but the concept of give away everything ends up in squalor, crime, and death. It always ends up the same way.” He specifically criticized progressive candidates like Lander and Darializa Avila Chevalier—who defeated Rep. Adriano Espaillat in a New York primary—as “crazed lunatics” who are now securing nominations due to the party’s radical turn.
Trump emphasized that these figures, he said, would not have won primaries under normal left-leaning dynamics but are now gaining traction because of what he described as the party’s “stone cold crazy” direction. “They’re taking on straight Democrats—or even if you say radical left, but not crazy left—these are people that are getting nominated,” he added. “If you’re not that way, you’re not going to get the nomination.”
The remarks follow recent Democratic primary victories by progressive candidates endorsed by figures like New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a democratic socialist. Former attorney Melat Kiros also recently defeated 15-term Rep. Diana DeGette in Colorado. Trump’s concerns align with Vice President J.D. Vance’s recent characterization of the party’s direction as “communism at its core.”
The president reiterated his belief that Democrats would be “much tougher to beat” if they returned to a centrist stance, calling their current trajectory a dangerous departure from traditional American values.
