U.S. Embassy in Oslo Struck by Explosion Early Sunday Morning

The U.S. Embassy in Oslo, Norway, was hit by an explosion early Sunday morning, causing minor damage.

Police officers and emergency services responded to the scene. According to a statement from Oslo police, the explosion occurred around 1 a.m. local time with no information available regarding its cause or perpetrators.

Police incident commander Michael Delmer confirmed that the blast struck the entrance of the embassy’s consular section. He stated that police received multiple reports of an explosion at approximately 1 a.m., after which officers arrived and verified the event. Delmer added that investigations are in their early stages, and he would not comment on the type of damage or what caused the explosion: “We are not going to comment on anything related to the type of damage, what exploded, or similar details.”

Police confirmed they were in dialogue with the embassy and reported no injuries had been observed at the scene. A 16-year-old resident near the embassy described hearing a loud blast while watching television: “My mother and I first thought it came from our house so we looked around a little, but then we saw the flashing lights outside the window and a ton of police.” The teen noted observing police dogs, drones, armed officers with automatic weapons, and helicopters in the air.

Local reports indicate a heavy police presence at the embassy, with images showing vehicles and armed personnel outside the building.
