A football player at the University of Alabama at Birmingham was accused of stabbing two teammates shortly before the Blazers were set to play a game. The incident occurred on campus at the Football Operations Building, according to the university. Interim head coach Alex Mortensen confirmed the players involved were in stable condition and noted the team decided to proceed with the game to honor graduating seniors. Several players opted to sit out due to the incident, though others participated in the normal game-day routine. The suspect, identified as Daniel Mincey, was arrested and booked on charges of aggravated assault and attempted murder. Mincey, an offensive lineman who transferred to the school in May, was in custody in Birmingham. The Blazers lost 48-18 to the University of Southern Florida, dropping their record to 3-8 this season and 1-6 in the American Conference. Their final game is Nov. 29 at Tulsa.
