Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered a three-day suspension of air strikes on Kyiv ahead of talks with U.S. negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who arrived in Moscow earlier this week. The pause, effective from midnight today, is intended to allow the Americans to negotiate with Ukrainian officials.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Putin has directed Russian forces not to strike Kyiv for three days starting immediately. The move aims to facilitate discussions between the U.S. envoys and Ukrainian authorities in the capital.
Ukrainian officials reported that Kyiv’s military forces were instructed to hold fire from Saturday midnight until Tuesday. Ukraine’s chief of staff, Kirill Budanov, stated that his country had sent a proposal for a temporary cessation of hostilities along the front lines and all air strikes. However, Moscow has not responded to this request.
Russian authorities have condemned Ukraine’s military leadership for ordering the temporary suspension of operations.
