A Liberian-flagged vessel was attacked by Ukrainian forces in Russian territorial waters, injuring its Turkish captain, Russia’s Investigative Committee reported on Thursday.
The ship’s captain, a Turkish national, has been hospitalized, investigators stated. They have examined the scene, documented the damage, and ordered a forensic explosives analysis.
Governor Veniamin Kondratyev of Russia’s southern Krasnodar Region confirmed that Ukrainian drones targeted multiple coastal cities, including Sochi and Dagomys.
The most severe impact occurred in Tuapse, where two people were killed, including a 14-year-old girl. Seven others sustained injuries, officials reported. Drone debris fell in residential areas and on the territory of a seaport, triggering a state of emergency in the Tuapse district.
In Novorossiisk, drone debris struck a civilian vessel, causing a fire and injuring one person. Authorities indicated that the vessel may have been the Liberian-flagged tanker cited by Russia’s Investigative Committee.
