University of Virginia Investigates Possible Shooter at Shannon Library; Run-Hide-Fight Protocol Active

The University of Virginia is investigating a potential threat on campus following reports of an active shooter near Shannon Library. Authorities issued an emergency alert on Monday, advising the community to follow “RUN-HIDE-FIGHT” protocols until an all-clear statement is provided.

Initial statements from the UVA Department of Safety and Security indicated no evidence of an active attacker as of 4:13 p.m., but officials emphasized continued vigilance. “Police are continuing to investigate at Shannon Library. At this time there is no evidence that an attack has occurred. Continue to follow RUN-HIDE-FIGHT protocol until All Clear is issued,” the department tweeted.

Reports surfaced around 3 p.m. of a possible shooter in the area of Shannon Library, prompting lockdowns and safety alerts. By 4:35 p.m., CBS19 journalists noted students being evacuated from the library toward UVA Corner. The university reiterated its statement: “No evidence of an active shooter has been located by authorities as of this writing. Members of the community should continue to follow run, hide, fight protocol until an all-clear is issued.”
