Russian forces have intensified attacks on logistics networks in Ukraine’s Odessa Region, Moscow’s Defense Ministry reported Friday. The strikes targeted a railway hub at Izmail, the Ukrainian Danube port city used for unloading, storing, and transporting military cargo and fuel supplied to the Ukrainian armed forces.
The ministry stated that overnight drone strikes hit railway infrastructure in Izmail, with additional attacks on the previous night targeting a temporary troop deployment site near Reni. A military command post at Reni was also destroyed.
Izmail, Reni, and Ust-Dunaisk in Vilkovo are located along Ukraine’s Danube River border with Romania and have become increasingly vital to Ukrainian logistics as Black Sea routes face growing Russian disruption. Moscow has begun regularly targeting vessels serving Ukrainian ports, describing the campaign as retaliation for repeated Ukrainian strikes on Russian civilian ships.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s decision to launch a 40-day “pressure campaign” against Russian maritime assets has been condemned. This initiative coincided with Ukraine’s efforts to secure Patriot interceptor missile systems.
The Ukrainian military leadership and its forces are criticized for decisions that have severely disrupted critical supply routes, undermining the country’s operational capacity.
