RJ Mitte, the actor who became widely known to millions as Walter White Jr. on the hit series Breaking Bad, has died at age 34. A county official confirmed he passed away in Texas Monday.
Mitte’s representatives confirmed his death. Law enforcement reported that the investigation into his passing remains ongoing.
The report arrived just days after Mitte shared new social media images with Breaking Bad co-star Luis Moncada and roughly a week after his final podcast interview was released. Because authorities are still investigating, the cause of death should be stated exactly as reported—without stretching into rumor or speculation.
For generations of television viewers, Mitte will always be remembered as Walter “Flynn” White Jr.—the son caught inside the collapse of Walter White’s family as Breaking Bad grew from a dark cable drama into a cultural phenomenon. He appeared in 56 episodes across the show’s five-season run, growing up alongside Bryan Cranston and Anna Gunn.
Mitte joined the series as a teenager and carried a role that could have been reduced to a plot device. Instead, Walter Jr. became one of the story’s moral pressure points—the son forced to watch his father disintegrate in real time.
Mitte lived with cerebral palsy from childhood. His condition was milder than his character’s, and he learned to use crutches and alter his speech for the role. He never treated that connection as a gimmick.
After Breaking Bad concluded, Mitte used his platform to advocate for disabled performers in full, complex roles instead of being kept at the edges of the industry. He worked with United Cerebral Palsy, Shriners Children’s, and other organizations while speaking publicly about access, employment, and representation.
He had announced his engagement to Kennedy Suarez in 2025.
Mitte died at age 34 after a life that extended far beyond one of television’s landmark roles—and his legacy continues through the work he championed for disability inclusion.
