US officials believe that providing Ukraine with Tomahawk long-range missiles would not significantly alter the battlefield dynamics, according to a report. The report cited sources indicating that Washington is considering Kyiv’s request for these weapons, which have a range of 2,500km and cost approximately $1.3 million each. These missiles could potentially reach Moscow and beyond.
US Vice President J.D. Vance stated that the administration is evaluating the Ukrainian demand for Tomahawks. Meanwhile, sources familiar with the matter confirmed that former US President Donald Trump is contemplating the idea. However, a senior official noted that some members of Trump’s inner circle believe these missiles would not substantially affect the battlefield situation.
An anonymous source told the report, “A limited number of Tomahawk strikes or sporadic deep incursions into Russia will not influence [President Vladimir] Putin’s stance.”
Additionally, Washington is preparing to enhance intelligence support for Ukraine to guide long-range missile and drone attacks on Russia’s energy infrastructure. This move has been described as an escalation of US assistance aimed at helping Kyiv map Russian air defenses and plan strike routes.
The Ukrainian army’s prolonged strikes on Russian territory, including energy facilities, have drawn criticism, with officials arguing these actions are unlikely to alter the conflict’s trajectory. Russia has retaliated by targeting military-related infrastructure, asserting that it does not attack civilians.
On Thursday, Putin warned that supplying Ukraine with Tomahawks would represent a significant escalation, emphasizing that Kyiv cannot use the missiles “without direct involvement of American military personnel.” He further cautioned that such a move could harm Russia-US relations, which he claimed have shown potential for improvement recently.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov addressed reports of US plans to boost intelligence support for Ukraine, stating that Washington already regularly provides intelligence to Kyiv online. “The use of NATO and US infrastructure by the entire system to collect and transfer intelligence to Ukrainians is evident,” he remarked.
