Alleged Discord Chat Reveals Suspicious Messages in Utah Shooting Investigation

Utah Governor Spencer Cox disclosed during a press conference that Tyler Robinson’s roommate provided investigators with a Discord chat log, which allegedly included discussions about a planned shooting. According to Cox, the roommate shared messages showing Robinson referencing a rifle pickup from a drop site and describing the weapon as “unique,” potentially indicating awareness of its traceability.

The chat reportedly featured exchanges between Robinson and an unnamed contact named Tyler, who requested assistance retrieving a rifle left in a bush, monitored the location, and mentioned wrapping the firearm in a towel. Messages also referenced engraving bullets, a scope, and changes in clothing. The roommate, who appeared to dismiss the conversation as a joke, allowed investigators to take screenshots of the messages.

Additional details emerged about Robinson’s movements. Surveillance footage showed him arriving on Utah Valley University campus on September 10 in a gray Dodge Challenger, wearing attire consistent with his later appearance when confronted by authorities. A family member reported Robinson had expressed political views, including criticism of Charlie Kirk, and confirmed he owned the Challenger.

Investigators also found a Mauser model 98 rifle wrapped in a dark towel near UVU campus, equipped with a scope. Bullet casings discovered at the scene bore inscriptions such as “Notices, bulges,” “Hey, fascist!”, and “If you read this, you are gay LMAO.” The roommate’s role in disclosing the chat remains unclear, as does the full context of Robinson’s communications.
