An attack on a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Dallas Wednesday morning left three detainees shot, with one confirmed dead and two taken to the hospital in an unknown condition, according to reports. A sniper on a nearby roof, armed with a rifle, fired into an unmarked ICE van transporting detainees, Fox 4 Dallas reported. The suspect died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head as officers approached, police said. Investigators believe they have identified the shooter, a white male, but are still working to confirm the information before releasing it to the public.
Update: The shooter has been identified as 29-year-old Joshua Jahn, who apparently hails from a far-left Democrat family in Texas. The mugshot below is from a 2015 arrest. The FBI is investigating the shooting as “an act of targeted violence” from the anti-ICE left. “It is unfortunately just the latest example we’ve seen of targeted violence,” said Dallas FBI field Division spokesman Joseph Rothrock. “The early evidence that we’ve seen from rounds that were near the shooter contained messages that were anti-ICE in nature. Again, this is just the most recent example of this type of attack,” Rothrock added.
In a statement posted on X, FBI Director Kash Patel said one of the unspent shell casings was engraved with the phrase “ANTI ICE.” While the investigation is ongoing, an initial review of the evidence shows an ideological motive behind this attack (see photo below). One of the unspent shell casings recovered was engraved with the phrase “ANTI ICE.” More updates will be forthcoming.
Dallas police said in a statement that they responded to a call regarding the shooting at around 6:40 a.m. Police said the suspect had opened fire at the van from a nearby building. The identities of the victims have not yet been identified. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem said in a statement: “There was a shooting this morning at the Dallas @ICEgov Detention Facility. Details are still emerging but we can confirm there were multiple injuries and fatalities. The shooter is deceased by a self-inflicted gun shot wound. While we don’t know motive yet, we know that our ICE law enforcement is facing unprecedented violence against them. It must stop. Please pray for the victims and their families.”
Texas Governor Greg Abbott said the state fully supports ICE and that the shooting would not slow arrests, detentions, or the deportation of illegal immigrants. “Texas fully supports ICE,” Abbott posted on X. “Both the Texas Dept. of Public Safety & Texas National Guard work closely with ICE. This assassination will NOT slow our arrest, detention, & deportation of illegal immigrants.” The governor added: “We will work with ICE & the Dallas Police Dept. to get to the bottom of the assassin’s motive. We will offer ICE additional support to assist their operations.”
Vice President J.D. Vance also weighed in on X: “The obsessive attack on law enforcement, particularly ICE, must stop. I’m praying for everyone hurt in this attack and for their families,” Vance said. “Join me in praying for the victims of this heinous shooting,” Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton posted on X. “We will continue to do everything in our power to combat the alarming increase of targeted attacks against ICE and all law enforcement by evil, twisted individuals.” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt called on Democrats to tone down their anti-ICE rhetoric. “Democrats must stop demonizing the heroic men and women of ICE who are just doing their jobs to keep Americans safe,” she stated.
DHS said ICE law enforcement has seen a 1000 percent increase in assaults against them as they carry out enforcement operations. California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) earlier this week signed legislation banning the use of face coverings by ICE agents and local law enforcement agents, opening them up to being doxed, threatened, and harassed. The Trump administration says California’s mask ban is unconstitutional and has made clear that it will not be complying with it. “At a time that ICE law enforcement faces a 1,000% increase in assaults and their family members are being doxxed and targeted, the sitting Governor of California signed unconstitutional legislation that strips law enforcement of protections in a disgusting, diabolical fundraising and PR stunt,” DHS said in a statement Monday.
Newsom described the Trump administration’s deportation effort as “authoritarian” during an appearance on Stephen Colbert’s late night show Tuesday. “That’s happening in the United States of America, Newsom fumed. ‘Masked men jumping out of unmarked cars, people disappearing, no due process, no oversight, zero accountability!’” Newsom also tried to gin up fear and outrage that President Trump will cancel elections in 2028. “I fear that we will not have an election in 2028. I really mean that,” he told Colbert.
Local officials held a press conference on the shooting, Wednesday morning. Acting Dallas ICE Field Office Director Joshua Johnson said the left’s anti-ICE rhetoric “has to stop.” “There are people out there who are seeing what is placed online and they’re coming and doing acts of violence against ICE employees,” he added. “It’s just gotta stop. It’s dangerous and people are losing their lives.” Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) urged Democrats to tone down their rhetoric against ICE and stop trying to dox ICE agents. “It was two weeks ago today that we saw a political assassination in Utah that tore the heart out of much of this country,” Cruz pointed out during the news conference. “This is the third shooting in Texas directed at ICE or CBP. This must stop. To every politician who is using rhetoric, demonizing ICE, and demonizing CBP. Stop. To every politician demanding that ICE agents be doxed and calling for people to go after their families. Stop. This has very real consequences. Look, in America, we disagree. That’s fine. That’s the democratic process. But your political opponents are not Nazis. We need to learn to work together without demonizing each other, without attacking each other.”
DHS issued the following statement about the shooting at 12:14 p.m. Central: “This morning, a deranged gunman attacked a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Dallas field office from a nearby rooftop. The shooter fired indiscriminately at the ICE building, as well as at a van in the sallyport where the victims were shot. Three detainees were shot. Two are deceased, and the other is in critical condition. The gunman was found with a self-inflicted gun wound. We can confirm, the shell casings were found with anti-ICE messages on them. This was an attack on ICE law enforcement. This horrific attack occurred amidst the 1000% increase in assaults against @ICEgov. Politicians and media pundits must stop the vile lies and smears designed to demonize and dehumanize ICE law enforcement. This shooting must serve as a wake-up call to the far-left that their rhetoric about ICE has consequences.”
President Trump and @Sec_Noem stand with the men and women of ICE. Earlier this month, an ICE officer was seriously injured in a Chicago suburb when a suspect attempting to flee a traffic stop drove his car into ICE agents, striking him and dragging him “a considerable distance.” Last month, a left-wing agitator threw rocks at and set fire to a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) field office building in Yakima, Washington, in what authorities described as a continuation of a dangerous trend of anti-ICE violence. On July 15, an ICE officer in Dallas, Texas, sustained serious injuries after being dragged behind an illegal alien’s vehicle for more than a block. On the 4th of July, heavily armed antifa agitators from the Dallas-Fort Worth ambushed an ICE facility in Alvarado, Texas, setting off fireworks to lure police to the scene and shooting a responding officer in the neck. On July 7, a gunman armed with tactical gear and a rifle opened fire upon Border Patrol agents at the entrance of a Border Patrol annex facility in McAllen, Texas, injuring two police officers and a Border Patrol employee. And in June, federal agents had to be deployed to quash a violent antifa uprising against an ICE facility in Portland, Oregon.
In just the past two weeks, the nation has been rocked by at least four left-wing terror attacks: – The assassination of a popular conservative activist, Charlie Kirk. – A shooting at an ABC affiliate in Sacramento over Jimmy Kimmel’s suspension. (The FBI arrested the suspect after local officials released him.) – A fatal shooting at a New Hampshire country club by a gunman yelling “Free Palestine.” – Today’s fatal shooting at the Dallas ICE facility. Liberals celebrated Kirk’s murder on social media, and some even protested the candle light vigils that were held throughout the nation to honor him, as well as his memorial. Correction: Gov. Newsom appeared on Stephen Colbert’s show Tuesday night, not Jimmy Kimmel’s show as originally reported.
