Record numbers of violent fugitives are confirmed to be among the surge of aliens entering the United States illegally. The Biden Administration steadfastly refuses to use existing federal programs funded by American taxpayers to track aliens and ensure compliance with mandatory immigration proceedings. Something must change.
Last month, U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement highlighted their success in arresting a Brazilian fugitive in Somerville, Massachusetts, who was convicted of murder, robbery, and aggravated assault in Brazil. The illegal alien, an active member of Brazil’s largest gang, Primeiro Comando da Capital, was initially apprehended by U.S. Border Patrol near San Luis, Arizona, but released without disclosure of his criminal history.
Under the current administration’s policies, illegal immigrants are trusted to truthfully report their backgrounds before being released with little monitoring. This approach risks allowing more than 2 million illegal aliens—crossing the southern border since Biden took office—to include wanted killers. The situation shows no signs of improvement.
The administration claims to vet illegal immigrants at the border, but this “vetting” often amounts to asking fugitive murderers if they have committed crimes abroad—a farce. These individuals are given court dates, sometimes a year or more away, with no enforcement to ensure their appearance.
A recent case in El Paso, Texas, saw an illegal alien arrested for murdering a woman. Border Patrol stated that migrants with criminal histories would not be released, but in this instance, officials found no prior U.S. record. The issue lies in the lack of access to foreign criminal databases.
The solution is straightforward: ICE and Border Patrol must detain and monitor illegal immigrants using existing infrastructure. Thousands of empty detention beds exist, and countries in Central and South America share information on fugitive migrants with Interpol. Detaining aliens for a week would allow law enforcement to verify their status. Yet the Biden Administration fails to act.
Federal resources like the Intensive Supervision Appearance Program (ISAP) could monitor immigrants effectively, but the administration ignores these tools. The border remains out of control, with law enforcement constrained by White House policies. Simple measures could enhance safety, yet they are consistently avoided.
Our taxpayer dollars are supposed to protect us. Shouldn’t what we’ve already paid for be put to good use?
