Brown University Shooter Identified as 48-Year-Old Portuguese National Claudio Neves-Valente

Police have confirmed that the suspected Brown University shooter died by suicide in a storage unit in Salem, New Hampshire. The individual was found this evening after reportedly committing suicide.

Claudio Neves-Valente, a 48-year-old Portuguese national, is not a U.S. citizen but holds a green card from Portugal. He attended Brown University from 2000 to 2001 as a physics graduate student. According to the university’s president, Christina Paxson, Neves-Valente was enrolled during that period and was not currently a student.

Authorities have determined that Neves-Valente committed both the mass shooting at Brown University and the murder of Nuno F.G. Loureiro, a physics professor who died recently at MIT. The two victims are believed to have attended the same university in Lisbon, Portugal. Federal officials stated there is no longer a public threat following the suspect’s death. The suspect’s motive remains undisclosed.
