Emergency services rushed to the scene of the Chevron facility in El Segundo, where witnesses described the blast as resembling an earthquake or nuclear detonation. “I thought we got nuked or something,” one individual recounted.

The blaze originated at the refinery’s Isomax 7 unit, which processes mid-distillate fuel oil into jet fuel for nearby LAX, as reported by Reuters. LA County Supervisor Holly Mitchell reported that the fire was contained to one section of the site, emphasizing no evacuation orders were issued. However, residents were advised to remain indoors, and visitors were urged to avoid the area.
