A man was arrested overnight for allegedly damaging windows at Vice President JD Vance’s residence in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Cincinnati police officers and Secret Service agents responded to the East Walnut Hills property early Monday morning and took the suspect into custody. Security footage captured the individual walking onto the property without permission and breaking four windows, as well as a vehicle.
According to an arrest report obtained by news outlets, William DeFoor, 26, has been charged with criminal damaging/endangering, obstructing official business, criminal trespass, and vandalism—a fifth-degree felony. The Secret Service confirmed DeFoor was detained after being seen by agency personnel near the residence and later observed on security footage entering the property.
The Vice President’s home in Cincinnati’s East Walnut Hills neighborhood, purchased for $1.4 million in 2018, was unoccupied at the time of the incident. Vance’s office stated his family had left Ohio prior to the damage occurring.
Cincinnati City officials reported several roads in the neighborhood were closed from December 29 through January 4, though the reason was not specified. Prior to his election in 2024, Vance described the home as “the perfect combo of proximity to the city and to nature,” noting neighbors lived within walking distance and natural features like trees and wildlife were prominent.
