Controversial Conservative Journalist Appointed as New CBS News Head

Bari Weiss, a prominent conservative journalist known for founding The Free Press, has been named editor-in-chief of CBS News in a major organizational shift. Weiss’s news outlet is being acquired by Paramount, which also owns CBS News, in a deal valued at approximately $150 million.

Weiss will report directly to Paramount CEO David Ellison, bypassing CBS News president Tom Cibrowski and other senior executives. The acquisition includes a mix of cash and stock payments, with the total value subject to fluctuations based on Paramount’s stock price. Ellison has emphasized his commitment to maintaining CBS News as a “purveyor of truth” and “facts.”

Before launching The Free Press, Weiss worked as an opinion writer for The New York Times. Her appointment marks a significant departure from traditional media structures, with insiders suggesting she could challenge existing leadership dynamics at CBS News.

The move has sparked speculation about potential shifts in the network’s editorial direction, though details remain unclear.
