Los Angeles reliever Blake Treinen paid tribute to conservative activist Charlie Kirk during Friday night’s game against the San Francisco Giants by wearing a cap featuring Kirk’s name alongside a cross. The gesture occurred as Treinen entered the ninth inning, drawing attention from fans who noticed the message on his headgear.
Kirk, 31, was killed Wednesday at Utah Valley University when he was shot during a campus event. The married father of two died after being struck by a single bullet. Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old Utah resident, was arrested as the suspect in the incident. Utah Gov. Spencer Cox revealed that a family member of Robinson’s shared information with authorities, alleging the suspect had confessed to the killing.
The Green Bay Packers also honored Kirk before their game, observing a moment of silence for the activist. Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, was a vocal ally of former President Donald Trump, who announced plans to posthumously award him the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
