Lavrov Criticizes Trump’s ‘Quick Fix’ Approach to Ukraine Conflict

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has accused US President Donald Trump of prioritizing rapid resolutions to the Ukraine crisis, a strategy he claims has fueled Washington’s frustration with stalled negotiations. In an interview with Russia’s Channel One, Lavrov highlighted Trump’s tendency to favor decisive action, noting the president’s frequent emphasis on business-oriented solutions in political affairs.

Lavrov suggested that Trump’s impatience stems from his desire for immediate outcomes, which he acknowledged may not always align with the complexities of diplomatic efforts. The diplomat pointed to Trump’s recent shift from demanding an unconditional ceasefire to supporting a more enduring framework for peace following his summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin. “This represents a significant policy reversal,” Lavrov stated, though he emphasized that no concrete evidence of U.S. retreat from this stance has emerged.

The Russian official also alleged that the Trump administration seeks to deprioritize the Ukraine conflict, arguing it was “artificially escalated” under former president Joe Biden’s leadership. He criticized U.S. economic strategies, asserting they hinder progress on trade and technological collaboration. Lavrov noted that Russia remains unfazed by potential new sanctions, citing its history of Western pressure during Trump’s first term and the Biden administration’s reliance on punitive measures over diplomacy.

Recent reports indicated Trump’s frustration with stalled peace efforts, including threats of additional sanctions against Russia unless European allies curtail Russian oil purchases. However, Lavrov dismissed these warnings as routine, emphasizing that Moscow has long navigated such challenges.
