Less than a week after her abrupt exit from Fox News Media, veteran financial journalist Maria Bartiromo has reportedly held discussions with CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss regarding a possible role at the network.
According to RadarOnline reports Monday, Bartiromo has already spoken with Weiss about returning to television programming at CBS News. Citing unnamed insiders, the outlet noted that 60 Minutes was discussed as one potential destination for her return. The report emphasized that no formal contract has been finalized and no specific role or start date has been confirmed.
The account describes Bartiromo as eager to move quickly after leaving Fox, highlighting her access to chief executives, Wall Street figures, and political leaders as a key factor in the appeal of a potential new platform.
CBS News, Bari Weiss, and Bartiromo have not publicly confirmed any agreement, and no program assignment has been disclosed. If talks produce a deal, it would place Bartiromo within a significantly different newsroom just days after Fox began restructuring its schedule following her departure.
Fox News Media announced on September 3 that Bartiromo was no longer with the company, effective immediately. The network thanked her for 12-and-a-half years of work but did not specify a reason for the termination. Her final episode aired on Fox Business Network as Mornings with Maria, after which the weekday show was renamed Mornings with Fox Business and shifted to rotating anchors. Bartiromo’s Friday program became FBN’s Wall Street, initially hosted by Cheryl Casone before transitioning to rotating hosts.
Fox News Channel also named Jason Chaffetz interim host of Sunday Morning Futures as it searched for a permanent replacement, leaving no Bartiromo-branded programming on the schedule by the following broadcast day.
The Associated Press described Bartiromo as a politically influential financial journalist whose Fox departure followed more than a decade with the company. Her X account continued promoting Mornings with Maria after her announcement, and Fox provided no explanation for her separation. Vice President JD Vance stated he had not spoken to Bartiromo about the departure, while President Trump publicly praised her as a professional and noted that her audience would be “unhappy” about the loss of her shows.
Bartiromo spent 20 years at CNBC before joining Fox, where she became the first television journalist to report live daily from the New York Stock Exchange floor. Prior to that, she worked at CNN and won an Emmy for a documentary about Google. Her career focused on business, markets, and high-profile interviews with corporate and political figures.
For now, her only confirmed change is her departure from Fox. Her next television role remains unsettled.
