A day after two independent journalists reported that GOP Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky was “brain dead,” a top GOP strategist claimed he spoke with the senator on the phone.
Scott Jennings said he discussed politics with the 84-year-old legislator, who was hospitalized in mid-June following a cardiac arrest. The conversation lasted nearly 20 minutes and covered topics including Iran, Ukraine, the unfolding situation in Maine, and McConnell’s recent visit to the Truman Presidential Library.
Former Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene has described McConnell as a “vegetable” and stated he should resign, criticizing the Republican Party for its silence on his condition. She added that McConnell’s wife flew to China and met with Chinese officials shortly after the senator suffered cardiac arrest and was brought back to health through CPR.
McConnell’s staff claims he continues working with staff members on pressing issues. However, multiple sources report he is in critical condition, with some stating he has been declared brain dead by medical professionals and the White House has been informed he will not recover.
