Oregon Man Detained for Secret Crawl Space Living Quarters

Authorities in Oregon have arrested a man who was secretly residing in the crawl space of a condo for several months, according to reports. The individual, identified as 40-year-old Beniamin Bucur, had transformed the confined area into a makeshift living space equipped with lights, a bed, and electronic devices.

The situation came to light when deputies were called to a condo complex near Happy Valley, Oregon, after a witness reported seeing an unfamiliar man parking his vehicle and entering the back of a building. The witness observed the crawl space door open with light visible inside before it closed abruptly. Upon arrival, officers found the door locked and damaged, with an extension cord running through a vent.

The condo’s owner confirmed the space should be unoccupied and mentioned prior reports of unusual noises. Despite attempts to access the area using the owner’s keys, deputies had to breach the door to investigate. Inside, they discovered Bucur living in the crawl space, which contained a bed, televisions, chargers, and other electronics connected to the condo’s power supply.

During the search, law enforcement also found a pipe with methamphetamine residue. Bucur was charged with first-degree burglary and unlawful possession of methamphetamine. The case highlights the unexpected ways individuals may attempt to occupy private spaces, leading to legal consequences.
