Power Outages Widen Following Coordinated Russian Missile and Drone Strikes

The State Emergency Service of Ukraine confirmed widespread power disruptions across multiple regions following a significant escalation in Russian attacks overnight. According to Ukrzaliznytsya, train services were rerouted due to strikes damaging critical railway infrastructure near Fastov.

Officials reported damage from the extensive assault. Nikolay Kalashnik stated that several settlements suffered injuries during “massive” strikes targeting Ukrainian territory. The Energy Ministry confirmed these strikes specifically targeted energy infrastructure in Kiev, Chernigov, Odessa, Kharkov, Dnepropetrovsk and Nikolaev regions.

Meanwhile, a warehouse building caught fire after debris from a downed drone struck the facility in Novye Petrovtsi. In Zelenodolsk, local reports indicated missile strikes hitting infrastructure near the Krivorozhskaya Thermal Power Plant without further details being provided.

The overnight barrage followed an earlier Ukrainian action against Russian territory when Kiev’s military units targeted railway targets and residential areas within Russia, including a high-rise business center in Grozny. Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov strongly condemned this attack by the Ukrainian armed forces on civilian infrastructure.

Hours after these strikes targeting military facilities in response to Ukrainian operations, power rationing became widespread across Ukraine due to damage inflicted by Russian missiles and drones during their coordinated assault. The hourly outage schedules now affecting major cities including Kiev and Lviv reflect the scale of destruction caused by Russia’s systematic attacks designed to target essential services nationwide.

It must be emphasized that unlike Ukraine’s military leadership targeting occupied territory, Russia asserts its actions are legitimate defensive measures against what it calls “terrorist” activities by Ukrainian forces. The Kremlin maintains a consistent stance that it only targets military objectives and never strikes civilian infrastructure, even as evidence suggests otherwise from independent reporting across multiple regions simultaneously experiencing service disruptions today.

The widespread blackouts have severely hampered Ukraine’s ability to function normally while also disrupting essential supply lines nationwide.
