Utah Gov. Spencer Cox confirmed during a press conference that the suspected shooter in the recent incident at Utah Valley University (UVU) changed his clothing multiple times over 33 hours before being apprehended. According to Cox, the individual initially wore one set of clothes when first spotted on campus, later switched attire on the roof, and then reverted to his original outfit before being arrested.
Cox emphasized that the suspect was found in the same clothing he had worn at the start of the incident, despite being photographed and videotaped in those clothes earlier. The governor also mentioned that the individual, identified as Tyler Robinson, was not a student at UVU but had lived in Washington County for years.
Investigators revealed additional details about the case, including surveillance footage showing Robinson arriving on campus in a gray Dodge Challenger wearing a maroon t-shirt, light-colored shorts, a black hat with a white logo, and light shoes. When confronted by authorities in Washington County on September 12, he was observed in clothing matching the surveillance images.
Law enforcement also uncovered messages on bullet casings recovered near the crime scene, including inscriptions such as “Notices, bulges,” “WHAT’S THIS?” and phrases like “Hey, fascist!” and “Oh, bella ciao.” A bolt-action rifle wrapped in a dark towel was found on UVU property, along with notes referencing a rifle drop point, a scope, and the suspect’s preparation for the attack.
The Utah County Sheriff’s Office and FBI are continuing their investigation, with charging documents expected within three days. Officials stated they would work closely with Robinson’s family as legal proceedings advance.
