President Trump criticized Fox News during Thursday’s broadcast of Special Report, directly addressing correspondent Jonathan Hunt and host Bret Baier over the network’s coverage of Iranian diplomatic efforts.
The president’s remarks occurred while the August 27 report aired, which examined U.S.-Iran relations amid ongoing economic sanctions. By the end of the segment, Baier directly responded to Trump.
Trump stated in his message: “Jonathan Hunt of FoxNews did a particularly inaccurate report on the Failing Islamic Republic of Iran. I don’t want to meet, they do. In fact, they are begging to make a deal. Bret Baier should straighten out his flunkies, for a change! President DJT”
The White House later shared Trump’s statement, emphasizing that Tehran sought an agreement but he had no intention of meeting with Iranian officials.
Baier defended Hunt’s report during the broadcast, noting that Fox News had previously aired Trump’s own comments declining a meeting with Iran and highlighting the role of regional allies such as Qatar in diplomatic efforts.
The Treasury Department announced on August 28 a proposed restriction on Banque Misr UAE, targeting its operations in the United Arab Emirates. The measure would prevent U.S. financial institutions from processing transactions for approximately $1.8 billion in Iranian-linked activities since January 2024.
