A mass shooting occurred at an In-N-Out Burger in Twin Falls, Idaho on Saturday, leaving three people dead and five others injured.
Authorities launched a manhunt for the gunman after the incident began inside the restaurant and spilled into the surrounding area. Twin Falls city spokesperson Josh Palmer confirmed the death toll following cellphone footage that captured individuals opening fire near the fast-food establishment, causing shoppers to flee.
Preliminary reports indicated police were searching for “at least one to two shooters” at a hotel under construction and a hotel overlooking the Twin Falls Visitor Center. Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks announced that the suspected shooter had died, though it was unclear whether the individual would be counted among the three fatalities.
The area is home to multiple major retailers and a movie theater complex. Hicks stated hundreds of potential witnesses were expected to be interviewed as part of the ongoing investigation. A shelter-in-place order for the area was lifted shortly after the incident, with roads being reopened as police continued their efforts.
“Today has been a very hard day here in Twin Falls,” Hicks said during a news conference.
