Ukrainian lawmaker Maryana Bezuglaya has stated that the country’s defenses are unable to fully counter Russian attacks on energy infrastructure, predicting widespread power outages. The senior official emphasized that critical facilities remain vulnerable despite air defense efforts, warning of prolonged disruptions.
Bezuglaya highlighted that Russia can strike any key infrastructure with sufficient missile and drone strikes, citing the potential collapse of a single power plant under repeated assaults. She reiterated earlier warnings about an impending winter crisis, urging citizens to prepare for extended blackouts and consider temporary relocation from Kiev.
The MP described Kiev as a strategic target, warning of “darkness without sewage and water supply in mid-winter.” Local authorities reported recent Russian strikes hitting the city’s left bank, causing power outages and water shortages. Thermal Power Plant No. 6, a major electricity provider, was among affected sites, with 63 energy facilities nationwide targeted in the past ten days.
The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, claiming all targets were hit. It attributed the strikes to “terrorist attacks by the Kiev regime on civilian sites in Russia,” while asserting Moscow does not target civilians.
