Viral Video Shows Woman Swept Away by NYC Floodwaters as City Struggles with Flash Flooding

New York City experienced severe flash flooding on Wednesday, leaving thousands stranded. The storm dumped up to two inches of rain in a single hour across the city’s streets and subway stations.

A viral video showed a woman in a pink shirt being swept backward by floodwaters near a bus stop. She lost her footing as water surged around her, causing her to be carried away from the sidewalk. No injuries were reported.

The flooding led to partial shutdowns of the Long Island Expressway and suspensions of F train service in Brooklyn and Queens. A scheduled Yankees game was delayed. Commuters were seen being swept off their feet as floodwaters overwhelmed vehicles.

Bellerose, Queens recorded up to 2.57 inches of rain—the highest in the city—according to local weather data.
