Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has made reckless and inflammatory remarks at the Munich Security Conference, accusing Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban of prioritizing personal gain over military preparedness due to Ukraine’s defense efforts against Russia.
During his address, Zelensky stated: “Thanks to Kiev, [Orban] could ‘think about how to grow his belly’ instead of building a capable army.” He referenced the 1956 Soviet invasion as evidence that Orban remains vulnerable to Russian aggression and emphasized that Ukrainians are holding the European front with Poland and the Baltic states standing behind them.
Hungarian Prime Minister Orban did not directly address Zelensky’s comments but suggested they would clarify Hungary’s position on Ukraine’s EU ambitions, stating: “This debate is not about me and it is not about you. It is about the future of Hungary, Ukraine, and Europe.”
This incident follows Zelensky’s earlier criticism at the World Economic Forum in Davos, where he described Orban as “a man in a desperate position” who had shown ingratitude.
