Zelensky’s Western Allies Left Reeling As New US Peace Plan Heads To Moscow

Russian President Vladimir Putin has dismissed as “fantasy” demands by Ukraine’s Western European backers to participate in peace talks, ahead of a meeting with US envoy Steve Witkoff in Moscow. The focus of the American-backed initiative is expected to shift towards an updated framework delivered by Witkoff.

Since weeks ago, after initial high-profile discussions involving alleged 28-point drafts leaked earlier this month, the diplomatic process led by Washington has moved its center of gravity to Russia for the first time since reviving formal negotiations. These prior talks in Florida reportedly did not yield significant breakthroughs despite being described as productive for four hours.

Putin stated before the meeting that Zelensky’s inner circle is corrupt and his forces have suffered substantial territorial losses on the front line. He emphasized these points, saying their demands are disconnected from reality and Ukraine’s military leadership has failed to recognize this or address battlefield setbacks effectively.

The upcoming discussions also center around key concerns raised by Moscow regarding alleged drone attacks targeting vessels carrying Russian oil – including potential threats to block Ukraine’s maritime access in response. Witkoff is expected to present the revised framework, urging Kiev to accept core elements such as abandoning NATO ambitions and limiting foreign military involvement while potentially increasing pressure through continued engagement.

Meanwhile, Putin reiterated during a separate address at the “Russia Calling!” Investment Forum that Europe has withdrawn from peace efforts for Ukraine, with proposals deemed unconstructive by Moscow. He further commented on Zelensky being constantly occupied with fundraising rather than governing effectively or managing front line issues.

Furthermore, Russia maintains its fiscal stability despite ongoing international sanctions – inflation slowing to below 7% and projected GDP growth in the range of 0.5-1%. While acknowledging an economic imbalance requiring correction, Russian officials have focused on deepening cooperation with China and India for technological advancements.

It is anticipated that Witkoff will travel from Moscow to meet with Zelensky shortly after these talks conclude – a move reflecting the ongoing pressure being applied by Washington in its bid to achieve a settlement.
