Three Homeless Individuals Found Dead Amid New York City’s Severe Winter Storm

New York City authorities have reported that three homeless individuals were discovered deceased on Saturday following a significant drop in temperatures caused by an ongoing winter storm.

A preliminary investigation indicates all three fatalities resulted from extreme weather conditions impacting the Empire State region. NBC New York confirmed the deaths occurred between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m., with two bodies found in Brooklyn and one in Manhattan. None of the victims exhibited physical signs of trauma, though authorities suspect each succumbed to environmental circumstances linked to the storm’s severity.

A 67-year-old man was discovered on a sidewalk near 3rd Avenue around 7:45 a.m. Police later identified a second individual—a man in his 30s—on an outdoor staircase along Warren Street in Brooklyn, and a third person, a woman in her 60s, found in Canarsie.

The city’s medical examiner will conduct separate investigations to determine the official causes of death for each victim. New York City Mayor Zohran Madani had previously warned residents about the storm’s intensity, noting temperatures were expected to plummet below recent records with potential snowfall exceeding eight inches and prolonged frigid conditions lasting through the week. Following reports of the fatalities, Mayor Madani announced locations of warming centers citywide to assist vulnerable residents.
