Christie Launches Virulent Attack on RFK Jr. Over HHS Appointment

Chris Christie launched a scathing critique of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., labeling him “unqualified” for the role of Health and Human Services Secretary and accusing him of harboring “foolish and vapid ideas.” The former New Jersey governor denounced RFK Jr. during an ABC News interview, stating, “Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is a foolish man… And that was on display again this week in front of Congress.” Christie further criticized the appointment, claiming it represented a “human middle finger” to those who opposed President Trump’s policies.

Christie also targeted Trump for selecting RFK Jr., arguing the president sought to defy critics by placing “the greatest vaccine and public health denier of the last 20 years in charge of public health in America.” The attack intensified when Reince Priebus, former Trump chief of staff, defended RFK Jr. as a “decent, humble, caring guy” attempting to balance pandemic risks and benefits. Christie responded with disdain, demanding, “You think Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is the best man to be leading public health?!” Priebus retorted that the decision rested with Trump.

The exchange highlighted stark divisions over RFK Jr.’s suitability for the role, with critics questioning his qualifications amid ongoing debates about public health leadership.
