A Washington, D.C. man was arrested following an incident where he allegedly spat on two National Guardsmen stationed at Union Station. Scott Pichon, identified as a 33-year-old Maryland lawyer, faces felony assault charges after the alleged act.
Surveillance footage captured Pichon riding a Lime scooter toward the guardsmen at approximately 4:53 p.m. and spitting a mixture of saliva and mucus on them. Amtrak Police Sergeant Robert Underwood witnessed the encounter, describing how Pichon “made a noise like he was coughing up mucus” before targeting the soldiers. One guard was struck in the face, while the other received the substance on the neck. Pichon did not stop his scooter during the alleged attack.
The incident occurred amid heightened National Guard presence in D.C., part of measures initiated by former President Donald Trump to address a declared “crime emergency.” Court documents obtained by The Independent detail the events leading to Pichon’s arrest, which took place on Friday afternoon. Security camera footage reportedly shows the guardsmen’s reactions to the alleged assault. Underwood detained Pichon at the scene.
The case has sparked public discussion about the severity of spitting on military personnel, with some questioning whether such actions warrant felony charges.
