As more than 60,000 migrants from Morocco have surged into Ceuta, a Spanish enclave on the North African coast, video footage shows attackers—nearly all military-age men—violently breaking into homes and stores as police and now the army struggle to contain the influx.
The invaders are reportedly setting fires and clashing with law enforcement across the border region. This pattern contradicts far-left media claims that the situation constitutes a “migration crisis.”
Social media observers speculate that the invasion was encouraged by Israel and the United States. They reference a report from the U.S. House Appropriations Committee in April, which noted Ceuta belongs to Morocco, and an X post from Netanyahu’s son, Yair, in 2019 urging “Arab and Muslims” to invade Ceuta.
Ceuta, located on the Alboran Sea about 18 miles from mainland Spain, has seen a sudden influx of migrants beginning July 29. The invasion coincided with King Mohammed VII’s pardon of over 1,500 Moroccan criminals.
Reports indicate that the number of invaders could exceed 60,000—three to five times the size of a U.S. Army division—with some estimates reaching 80,000. Nearly 30 have died in the chaos, and others have turned back due to hunger.
Zakaria Lahmer, a 23-year-old migrant with burns on his right leg, told reporters he was beaten by Moroccan police while attempting to flee: “I don’t want to live in Morocco, I want to live in Europe. I want a job, I want happiness.” He also stated he is starving but refuses to leave Spain.
Residents of the enclave are terrified, especially after similar attacks on women in Germany during 2015-2016. One woman described her fear: “I’m scared, I’m surrounded and trembling.”
The invaders appear intent on moving toward mainland Spain, potentially seeking to reconquer territory historically freed from Islamic rule by Isabella I of Castile and Ferdinand II of Aragon in 1492.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez deployed troops to Ceuta but was booed by residents. Meanwhile, a White House spokesman blamed Europe’s “far-left, globalist policies” for enabling mass migration.
The situation has drawn sharp criticism from Israel after Spain removed its representatives from a coordination center in Kiryat Gat. In response, Israeli officials stated: “Spain has defamed our heroes, the soldiers of the IDF, the soldiers of the most moral army in the world.”
The U.S. House Appropriations Committee’s 2027 bill also recognizes Ceuta as Moroccan territory.
