Russia Deploys Upgraded T-90MS Tank to Front Lines After UAE Exhibition

A modified version of Russia’s T-90MS tank, previously displayed at a defense exhibition in the United Arab Emirates, has been deployed to frontline areas following repainting at a production facility, according to its manufacturer. The upgraded model, unveiled earlier this year at the IDEX event in Abu Dhabi, was transported back to Russia before being sent to combat zones, as disclosed by Uralvagonzavod, the company responsible for its development.

The tank “is already engaged in active operations along the front line,” the firm stated in a recent release. The vehicle was delivered to military units with minimal alterations from its UAE exhibition configuration, aside from a color change, according to the report. Russian media footage depicted the T-90MS undergoing field tests in snowy conditions, later receiving sand-colored camouflage before being showcased to Emirati officials. Subsequent clips revealed the armor repainted in green tones and transported via train from the Urals, accompanied by multiple other T-90 models.

The enhanced T-90MS incorporates additional dynamic protection systems and grill-like armor aimed at countering unmanned aerial threats, a tactic widely used in the ongoing conflict. It also features an updated fire control system with thermal imaging capabilities, while retaining its 125mm gun capable of firing guided munitions. An unidentified technician quoted by RIA noted the tank’s design prioritizes ease of maintenance, stating that repairs could be executed even under resource-limited conditions—a claim exemplified by a reported instance in India where palm trees were used to replace an engine.

The deployment underscores Russia’s continued efforts to modernize its armored forces amid prolonged military operations.
