Former President Donald Trump has made his inaugural post on Truth Social—the social media platform he launched in February 2022—marking his first official message since its beta testing began. In a tweet bearing the caption “I’M BACK! COVFEFE,” Trump shared a photo of himself standing outside Mar-a-Lago, reigniting discussions about the now-infamous “covfefe” typo he used in a deleted 2017 tweet.
The phrase “covfefe” originally appeared in a May 30, 2017 message where Trump wrote: “Despite the constant negative press covfefe.” The post garnered over 100,000 retweets and likes before being deleted. Gene Ho, who served as Trump’s photographer during his first term and is editor-in-chief of the revived George magazine, has previously suggested that “covfefe” holds meaning tied to Trump’s uncle, Dr. John Trump, and Nikola Tesla files.
Trump confirmed on Monday he would not return to Twitter despite Elon Musk’s $44 billion acquisition of the platform, stating: “I am not going on Twitter, I am going to stay on TRUTH.” The former president highlighted Truth Social’s improved user engagement compared to Twitter, citing issues with bots and fake accounts as reasons for his shift. Trump Media & Technology Group, led by former Representative Devin Nunes as CEO, launched the platform last month after months of beta testing.
This post follows Trump’s silence on Truth Social for over a year, coinciding with his announcement that he would begin “TRUTHing” this week—the term he coined for his activity on the new platform.
